The New Zealand Customs Service protects and promotes New Zealand through world class border management. We promote New Zealand’s international trade, collect Crown revenue, and enforce the law by identifying and seizing prohibited imports and exports. We also make sure that lawful travellers and items can move across our border as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

As Team Leader Investigations, Drugs (SupCO), you’ll be responsible for leading and developing a team in the Drug Investigations team, responsible for investigating serious border related criminal offending relating to the importation and exportation of controlled drugs, offshore disruption of transnational drug syndicates.
You’ll provide strong people leadership and support to staff by maintaining ongoing training and development, as well as working closely with the Customs Technical Specialists to ensure operational objectives are achieved.
The Team Leader (SupCO) role reports directly to the Chief Customs Officer (CCO) and will be responsible for assisting the CCO with the overall direction and leadership of the Investigations team they are responsible for.

To be successful in this role you must:

• Have skills and experiences in leading others, either through team leadership, or coaching and mentoring others.
• Successfully pass the Officer Safety and Tactics (OST) and arrest training and complete annual refresher training.
• Work full-time and flexibly to enable Investigations coverage 24/7 when operationally required.
• Be able to work and travel at short notice, working overtime where required. Officers will also be scheduled ‘on-call’ for specified periods of time and must be available during that time to return to work.
• Be physically fit

Joining Customs

To join Te Mana Ārai o Aotearoa in any role you must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident*. Due to the nature of Customs’ work all candidates must have a clear Police record. Organisational Security clearances are mandatory and are conducted by Customs before job offers are made. Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at SECRET level.  Successful applicants are also required to pass a drug test, PCT and medical assessment and hold a full driver licence.
(*) You need to have continuously resided in New Zealand for the last 10 years, or in one or more of the following countries: Australia, Canada, United Kingdom or United States.  You must have a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service towards a recommendation of suitability for security clearance at a higher level.
